2013 Future Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg is born in New York, NY. Greenberg will spent 12 of his 13 MLB seasons playing for the Detroit Tigers. Greenberg won the MVP in 1935 and 1940. He missed the entire 1942, 1943, and 1944 seasons along with the majority of the 1941 campaign and half of the 1945 campaign while serving in the US Air Force during World War II.
1961 Briggs Stadium in Detroit, named after former Tigers owner Walter Briggs, is officially renamed Tiger Stadium.
