2005 The Angels announce the franchise will now be known as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
2005 Commissioner Bud Selig approves a potential trade of Randy Johnson from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Yankees for pitcher Javier Vasquez, catcher Dioner Navarro, outfielder Brad Halsey and $9 million.
1976 The Kansas City Royals release pitcher Lindy McDaniel, effectively ending his career. He appeared in 987 careers, at the time the second most in league history behind only Hoyt Wilhelm’s 1,070.
1973 A group of private investors, headed by George Steinbrenner, purchases the New York Yankees from CBS for $10 million.
1962 Construction begins on the Harris County Domed Stadium, later known as the Astrodome. It will serve as the home of the Houston Astros from 1965 until 1999.
1920 The secret deal for the New York Yankees to purchase Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox for $125,000 is publicly announced.
