1987 Catfish Hunter and Billy Williams are elected to the Hall of Fame. Hunter was the ace of the Oakland Athletics in the early 70’s winning 20-plus games five consecutive years (1971-1975). He was also one of baseball’s first big free-agents in 1975 when he signed with the New York Yankees. Williams, a long-time Chicago Cub and 1961 NL Rookie of the Year, established a National League record 1,117 consecutive games played that has since been surpassed by Steve Garvey.
