2000 The Cincinnati Reds send Brett Tomko, Mike Cameron, and two minor league players to the Seattle Mariners for Ken Griffey, Jr. The Reds and Junior agree to a nine-year $116.5 million contract extension. Griffey will spend nine years in Cincinnati where he will average only 105 games a season.
1961 Willie Mays signs a one-year deal with the San Francisco Giants for $85,000, at the time, the biggest contract in Major League Baseball.
