1976 The American League Seattle a new expansion franchise, to be called the Mariners, and will begin play in 1977.
1958 Ted Williams and the Red Sox agree on a one year deal estimated to be worth between $135,000 and $150,000 making him the highest paid player in history. While Williams will turn 40 towards the end of the season he will lead the league in batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS and finish seventh in MVP voting while making the All-Star team.
