1991 The board of directors of the Hall of Fame vote unanimously to ban Pete Rose from the ballot.
1957 The all-time leader in triples (309) and long time Tiger great Sam Crawford is elected to the Hall of Fame. Besides being the triples king Crawford twice led the league in homers and three times led the league in rbi.
1956 Major Leagues votes to establish an award to recognize the outstanding pitcher of the year called the Cy Young Award.
