1908 The sacrifice fly rule is established, stating no at-bat is charged if a run scores after a fly ball is caught.
1901 The National League Rules Committee sets three new rules. All foul balls count as strikes, except after two strikes. Catchers must play within 10 feet of the batter. A ball will be call if the pitcher does not throw a pitch within 20 seconds.
