1972 The St. Louis Cardinals trade Steve Carlton to the Philadelphia Phillies. The future Hall of Famer will go on to win 241 games and four Cy Young Award as a Phillies.
1917 The Chicago White Sox purchase Chick Gandil from the Cleveland Indians for $3,500. Gandil was a part of the White Sox 1917 World Series champions. Gandil would be more infamously regarded as the ringleader to the Black Sox scandal. Gandil did not play major league baseball after 1919.
