2017 Major League Baseball adopts a rule change. Starting this coming season a pitcher will no longer be required to throw pitches four pitches outside the strike zone in an effort to issue an intentional walk. The pitcher’s manager will only need to signal his pitchers intent to the home plate umpire and the umpire will award the batter first base.
1945 Owners agree to cancel the 1945 All-Star game scheduled for Fenway Park. In place of the All-Star game, eight games where American League teams will play National League teams are played simultaneously.
