2015 Less than one month after becoming Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announces new rules to help speed up the pace of play. Among others batters will be required to keep at least one foot in the batter’s box during an at-bat and the time between innings with be timed.
2001 Andruw Jones wins a record $8.2 million contract in arbitration with the Atlanta Braves.
1984 The Dodgers and Pedro Guerrero agree to a five-year, seven million dollar deal making him the highest paid player in team history.
1966 19 years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier the American League hired Emmett Arnold making him the first black umpire in Major League history.
