1970 Two-time Cy Young winner and the last AL pitcher to win 30 games Denny McLain is suspended. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn suspends McLain for three months due to his alleged involvement in a booking fixing operation.
1954 The Brooklyn Dodgers sign 19-year old Puerto Rican prospect Roberto Clemente. The Dodgers would lose Clemente in the 1954 Rule 5 Draft because they failed to protect him.
