Introduction
The Texas Rangers franchise began in 1961 as the Washington Senators, an expansion team created after the original Senators relocated to Minnesota and became the Twins. After 11 seasons in Washington, the franchise moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1972 and adopted the Rangers name. The club endured decades of ups and downs before emerging as a consistent contender at various points from the 1990s onward. Along the way, the Rangers have featured some of baseball’s most recognizable players, including Nolan Ryan, Iván Rodríguez, Juan González, Adrián Beltré, and Michael Young.
The Rangers reached the World Series for the first time in 2010 and returned in 2011, coming within one strike of winning the championship before ultimately falling to the St. Louis Cardinals. Twelve years later, Texas completed its long pursuit of a title by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 World Series, capturing the first championship in franchise history.
